Roger gave his heart to Christ at the age of 17. Feeling a strong call to ministry, Roger has served as worship leader, board member, and elder at several churches over the years. Roger started attending Harvest Muskoka in July 2010.
A the age of 17, Roger gave his heart to the Lord at the prompting of the Holy Spirit via a humble missionary from India. His name was Mark Buntain. Passed on to glory now. He brought a simple Gospel message that ended up with Roger down at the alter. Then everything changed for all those who are in Christ are new creations. His hopes, desires & perspective were all changed and renewed by the inner working of the Holy Spirit. Roger experienced the grace of God and the touch of the Holy Spirit that not only brought the necessary change in His life, but kindled a fire that to this day has not grown dim.
Roger attended a technology college after high school with a desire to become computer programmer. Years later, he went on to found his own software company and acts as the Chief Technology Officer. Being able to develop software solutions that “help people help people” has always been a driving focus for him. He enjoys the creative process of taking an idea and turning it into a software program.
Roger has traveled the globe installing and configuring his software solutions for some of the worlds largest brands. From help desk to Customer Relationship Management, to Project and Task Management, to websites e-commerce and phone systems, software development has always been not just his work, but something that he genuinely enjoys.
Rogers serves as an elder at harvest, and attends small group regularly where he provides help and guidance as needed. It is such a privileged to sit at the elder’s table to be involved in the leadership of the church. But with leadership comes responsibility, and the weight of that responsibility at times does take it’s toll. But having an attitude, “not my will but yours”, helps keeps everything in perspective, God always leading, and us always following.
Family life has always been a big part of his life. Roger is the second of 4 children, has an older and younger brother, and a younger sister. He has 2 biological children and currently 3 children in care.
As a leader, it’s important for us to set an example. The scripture, “Follow me as I follow Christ” comes to mind, so in humility, Roger strives to do as he would have others do. And being mindful that “people watch us” as elders, helps us realize that we have to walk the walk not just talk the talk.
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
Matthew 22:37
