Kaj Ballantyne

Senior Pastor & Elder

Kaj was raised in a Christian home. His dad was a Pastor so he has sat under the teaching of the Word since a very young age. Kaj prayed a “sinner’s prayer” as a 5-year old and was baptized as an 8-year old, but truly gave his life to Christ during his 2nd year of College.

Kaj continues to grow in his faith as he sees God, in His grace, reveal sin/idols and show Himself worthy of all worship and glory. This truly happens when Kaj sees God for who He really is (holy and infinite) and sees himself for who he really is (sinful and finite) and sees God’s love and grace, revealed in Jesus Christ and His cross, poured out on him and causing him to come undone (his heart is filled with gratitude and worship). From that place of brokenness and worship, Kaj’s life has a focus, direction and purpose.

Kaj has a Bachelor of Religious Education (Heritage College & Seminary), an Associate Degree in Outdoor Pursuits (Okanangan Bible College) and a Certificate in Biblical Studies (Nashville Bible College). He also spent one year at the Harvest Training Centre (Church Planter Training) and has a lot of Wilderness/Outdoor Certification…which is not so useful as a Pastor!

Kaj has been serving as the Lead Pastor of Harvest Church since 2008. Prior to this, he was the Founder and Director of Summit College (1996-2007). Kaj developed and directed this One-Year Wilderness Discipleship School (a “gap year program”) which attracted a limit of 40 students (18-24 year olds) per year from around the world. In the 3rd year of the school, he developed an Internship Program for 6 students each year who would stay for a second year of leadership and discipleship training. During the summers of 1995-1998, Kaj served as a Director at Camp Widjiitiwin. He developed outdoor programs for the Summer Camp and Conference Centre. He developed and directed a Discipleship/Leadership Training program called SALT (Skills and Leadership Training) and Directed the Summer Camp for one summer.

Kaj currently serves on the Board of Christine’s Place and volunteers at the Breakfast Program at Huntsville High School and Saint Mary’s. He also serves on the Canadian Board and Pastoral Care Team for the Great Commission Collective.

Kaj and his wife, Libby, have three daughters: McKinley (14), Elianna (12) and Chloe (9).

His priority as a Harvest Church Leader is leading, preaching, discipleship and raising up/equipping Pastors and Leaders for the work of the ministry.

“But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus” – Acts 20:24

“Thus says the Lord: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest? All these things my hand has made, and so all these things came to be, declares the Lord. But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.” Isaiah 66:1-2
